What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a regulated healthcare profession in Portugal under Law 71/2013, standing out as a primary care modality. Over a 4-year degree, Osteopaths gain autonomy to diagnose and treat neuromusculoskeletal conditions, as well as to refer patients to other professionals when necessary. Osteopaths are required to hold a professional license issued by the Ministry of Health to practice.

Osteopathy takes a global and individualized approach to patients, considering interactions between all systems of the human body, including emotional dimensions and health beliefs. We carefully assess the interplay between anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics, aiming to restore movement and promote health holistically. Specialized manual techniques are used, with an emphasis on health education to ensure comprehensive treatments, providing relief and balance for both body and mind with lasting results.

Osteopaths employ manual techniques tailored to each clinical case and the preferences and capabilities of each individual, aiming to restore the body's balance. This process often results in pain relief, improved movement, and overall health and well-being enhancement.

Osteopathy treats people, not diseases. Therefore, it is also for everyone, including: newborns, pregnant women, adolescents, athletes, the elderly, patients from other specialties, etc.
